What is a Directed Net?

In a directed net a Net Control Station (NCS) organizes and controls all net activity.  One station wishing to call or send a message to another station in the net must receive permission from the NCS to make the call.  All communications pass through the NCS.  This is done so that messages with the highest priority will be handled first.

To become part of a directed net:

Listen for the NCS to ask for check-ins.  Listen for specific instructions from the NCS such as; "Check-ins with emergency traffic only".

At the appropriate time give only your call sign when you check into the net.  If you have traffic you may add "with traffic"   If it is emergency traffic say "with emergency traffic"

Wait for a response before adding any more information.

LISTEN before checking into a directed net and understand procedure.  Be sure you have something specific to offer before checking into a directed net if you are not part of the organization operating the net.
